Braintree

Alice Blue was tasked with creating a medically accurate braintree, with emotions displayed in their appropriate quadrant, and the right balance of healthy growth and interior decay. To detail this in a way that checked all the boxes but was still visually engaging was a challenge in and of itself. In addition, there was a need to design and create a unique and ownable environment that acted as a backdrop to the Braintree.

Expanding the Concept

The beauty of a fully created CGI scene is the ability to go back into the creation, change textures, lighting, and rework the entire conceptual direction to show an ‘after’ treatment scene. With brighter light, more green growth, the patient is shown in an active state, living their life with hope and light.

CGI: Building the Scene

Z-Brush modeling created the basic structure of the Brain Tree – Brain Tree Structure, Branches, and Symptom Quadrants. We then got busy with our Mega Scans to integrate authentic scanned textures for all elements of the scene. Bark Scans, Dirt and Root Scans, Leaf Scans, and finally Wild Grass Scans to round out the scene. Each organic detail is then utilized in 3D space to combine the best of hand artistry and that of technological innovation.

The underground root systems and PHE element was hand done to create a cutaway of above and below ground detailing.

Finally additional leaves were created utilizing Speed Tree rendering. Speed Tree is an advanced rendering program utilized by the movie industry that allows you select, grow and generate trees and other vegetative elements. This would be utilized in the creative of your CGI environments.​​​​​​​

Photography/Post: Perfecting the Scene

We were thrown a last minute curveball when medical review necessitated the addition of a patient in the scene. The environment built within CGI space allowed for us to tap into all attributes of camera type, lens, focal length, as well as all lighting details to capture portrait photography of talent in studio without missing a beat.

With so many parts, it was critical to meticulously plan all details within the Pre Viz and CGI production phases. This ensures a seamless post production process to bring it all together, to allow the viewer to wonder was it or was it not captured in camera?
